Being in the Shoes of an Attention Deficit Disorder Patient

By Ram Collins

Life doesn't have to be difficult for a kid or even for an elder who has ADD. For someone who just recently discovered that he/she has the said disorder, one might look uncertain towards the future since the symptoms can go on forever and they might change as the years go by. However, any ADD patient would soon learn to cope up with one's situation given enough time and support and one would be more at ease with his/her life.

Children with ADD are usually unmindful, reckless, or may get distracted easily or may show too much of goings-on. Also, the symptoms remain mostly the same even in other age groups. However, dealing with these symptoms does improve significantly, as one gets older.

One's treatment can also greatly affect the different ADD symptoms of a certain patient. Thus, you must ask first for your doctor's opinion before taking any type of medicine. Know the benefits and the harmful effects of the drug before you even buy them. Instead of taking prescribed drugs, you also have the option to undergo therapy for behavior control instead.

There are some characteristic traits, typical of ADD that you should prepare for in your life. These may be difficulties in being attentive to details, problem in remaining still for any span of time, being fidgety, or problem in being able to stay through and complete a given task.

However, there are a lot of things that you can perform to conquer these symptoms. Since you are most likely to be a disorganized person because of ADD, then you can purchase a sleek organizer where you can write down all the things that you need to do. You are free to buy a concrete book organizer or a more innovative digital one instead. You can even hire a virtual assistant if you want to. If you opted for a digital gadget, make sure that you know how to use it for you to keep your notes in order.

These routines and schedules should be used to their maximum. You will naturally be inclined to forget and be careless. So by using a proper device you will tend to behave more unlike your nature and thus make lesser mistakes. So, it is always better to use automation.

You can also join ADD support groups and gain new friends that can understand what you are going through. You can confide whatever you are feeling to this people because they know how it really feels to have ADD. Another ADD patient can give you the fullest support that no other person can give you even from your immediate family and relatives. They don't have the said disorder so your views can differ sometimes.
